Micromax Canvas Silver 5 was launched in New Delhi Yesterday and claims to be available by the first week of July via retail and online, priced at Rs 17,999. Micromax claims that the smartphone to be the slimmest phone with a width of 5.1mm in the market.
CEO of Micromax, Vineet Taneja concedes that there are other smartphones are slimmer than the Canvas Silver 5 in the market, but what makes the phone different is that it lacks bulges and bumps along their bodies, which makes the Canvas Silver 5 slimmer at some points.
Apart from the specifications and performance announced during the launch, Taneja also threw some light on the importance of design and after sales services. Our limited experiments on the smartphone questions that incredibly sleek feature are enough to differentiate or to justify the relatively high price tag?
The Micromax Canvas Silver 5 is 5.1mm thick and weighs just 97grams which run on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. The smartphone supports a single SIM card (Nano-SIM) and sports a 4.8-inch (720×1280 pixels) HD AMOLED display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The device is powered by a 64-bit 1.2GHz quad-core processor with 2GB DDR3 RAM while, the inbuilt storage is of 16GB and doesn’t feature expandable storage.
The smartphone features 8MP autofocus rear camera along with sony IMX219 CMOS sensor with a blue glass filter and LED flash, whereas it has 5MP secondary camera. Taneja claims the smartphone has a 2000mAh battery which is enough for a whole day to function efficiently.
The camera of the device gives a sharp image in bad lighting without much noise in the image and the camera seems to be fair at any rate.
After sales services
Micromax promises to give after sales services similar to Canvas Knight 2, the Canvas Silver 5 will also benefit from “M! On-Site Care.” This service is featured on Micromax’s website that enables the Users to get a doorstep pickup of the phone for the customer who faces any problems, along with that the company also offers a guarantee of either repairs or a replacement within a week.
The Micromax Canvas Silver 5 sports a 4.8-inch screen that covers most of space and the sides in particular having only narrow bezels. The phone comes in both black and white-and-gold variants. It’s not too uncomfortable to hold – there are no sharp edges and the phone is narrow enough that our hand curled naturally around the body.
At the bottom edge of the phone features a 3.5mm jack and the USB port and the earphone jack takes up most of the bottom while, the power and volume buttons are placed on the left and right sides, respectively. The rear camera is encircled with just a slightly raised ring around it to protect it from damage.
The UI showed nothing unique although, the camera features a ‘professional mode’ which the company promises to give users a lot of control fro uncertain lighting conditions. The Canvas Silver 5 was easy to type a message and the phone weighs 97grams which mean the users would unlikely feel the presence of the phone in their pocket.
The phone is certainly slim but, cannot refute that it lacks expandable storage wit only advantage of 16GB internal storage. Along with that, it also lacks Dual-SIM functionality which is quite popular in India. It is uncertain that these given features will be welcomed by the customers in India with a relatively high price of the phone.
