Apple did this in 2013 when it introduced iPhone 5c along with iPhone 5s that replaced the previous year’s iPhone 5. The iPhone 5c had a plastic body, unlike any other iPhone. The phone was not much praised due to its heavy price and plastic build. But some reports say that Apple wants to repeat itself with another Low end variant.
Like a tradition, it is obvious that Apple will name its next smartphone iPhone 6S. But some reports claim that Apple will launch not one but three devices, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and iPhone 6C this year. The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S plus will be minor upgrades to the last year’s iPhone 6 but the new iPhone 6C will be launched to cater the emerging markets like India. The three devices are expected to be launched in second half of the year.
Another thing that has changed is the ’S’ and the ‘C’. These suffixes used to be in lower case but no reason was given for them being in upper case. The nest iPhones are expected to pack in LTPS displays made by companies that include Japan Display, Sharp and LG Display. The screen is expected to be covered by Corning Gorilla Glass.
The next series of flagship iPhones are expected to come with the newer A9 chips and the iPhone 6C will still be using A8 chip from last year. The fingerprint scanner and NFC will be present on all the three devices. Some earlier reports suggested that iPhone 6C will be a 4 incher phone that will replace iPhone 5c and will be designed specifically for female users.
In a report Digitimes claims that iPhone 6C will be manufactured by Wistron and the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus will be assembled by Foxconn and Pegatron. Report further adds that Wistron now handles the production of dome older models and Compal Electronics assembles iPads. They both have joined Apple as manufacturing partners recently.
