LG, the South Korean multinational electronics company, has recently launched its latest Smartphone belonging to its flagship G series – the LG G3 Beat. It is a more affordable variant of the G line and a successor to the LG G3 Smartphone, having a brilliant set of features and available at a more affordable price.
LG G3 Beat has many of the features of LG G3. The basic elements of the device’s spec sheet are:
- Sports a 5 inch IPS LCD capacitive touch screen
- Runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS
- Powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Processor
- Primary rear camera of 8MP with LED flash
- Secondary front camera of 1.3MP
- Runs on 1GB of RAM
- Internal storage of 8GB expandable to 64GB
- Li-Ion 2540mAh battery
G3 Beat comes with a rear back which has a brush metal finish though made of plastic. The look is completed by the thin-bezelled front face, the removable back cover and the power and volume buttons at the rear like LG G3. The curved back and the smooth edges make the device easier and comfortable to hold but make it slippery as well.
LG G3 sports a 5 inch capacitive touch screen having a decent display and touch response. The screen resolution is 720x1280pixels, while the pixel density is 294ppi which makes image crisp and quite sharp. The viewing angle is great and the colour reproduction good, too. The legibility under sunlight and outdoors is nice and brightness levels quite impressive. However, the screen is a finger magnet where persistent smudges are a letdown unless you use suitable screen guards.
G3 Beat runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat operating system, which comes with LG’s UI skin on top of it. The icons are flat with the drop-shadow effect and contain sharp edges. It contains apps like ‘QuickRemote’, ‘LG SmartWorld’, ‘ThinkFree viewer’ and the ‘RemoteCall Service’. It also contains the ‘QSlide’ which helps you to decide which apps you want to see on the notification panel. Settings Menu comes with 4 different sections – Networks, Display, General and Sound and can be unlocked even from the sleep mode. No word has been out about the 5.0 Lollipop update yet.
LG G3 Beat is powered by a 1.2GHz processor housing a Cortex A-7 quad-core along with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC and Adreno 302 GPU. The device runs on 1GB of RAM, which may not seem sufficient if you want to utilize your phone for heavy-duty usage. The device also comes with 8GB of internal storage which is not at all sufficient, but then it has a microSD card slot, allowing the user to expand it to 64GB.
G3 Beat is gifted with an 8MP BSI CMOS rear camera with LED flash containing the laser auto-focus feature which is one of its eminent selling points. The camera settings menu is quite minimalistic and easy to navigate but does not have many options to toggle with. Image quality is good outdoors and colour quality is quite impressive too, but in dimly lit surroundings a bit of noise is evident in the captured pictures. However the HDR shooting is not one of its strongest points. The 1.3MP secondary front camera is decent for the selfie maniac.
LG G3 Beat offers a Li-Ion 2540mAh battery with a decent battery backup. On regular usage, which includes calling, surfing, audio playback and messaging, it can give up to 12 to 14 hours of battery life. The main battery draining activity however is when you view live video streaming and play games continuously.
To conclude, LG G3 Beat comes with an elegant design and a smart set of features. But when you compare the not-so-impressive performance of the device to the price range, it may not appeal to you. However, the display and camera makes for a good bet. At the end of the day, it is probably the brand name which forces you to chuck out extra cash, but this device makes for a decent choice.
LG G3 Beat Price: Rs 16,999 (FlipKart)
