Micromax shifts its focus to technology lovers and announces a new brand “Micromax Yu”. Micromax has quickly got on the ladder of success and has become India’s second largest Smartphone manufacturer. This has been possible with the innovation and clever thinking as it has just displayed by launching new series, “Yu”.
Micromax’s subsidiary, Yu Televentures has partnered with Cyanogen and their aim is to provide unique experience to its customers.
Although details about price and specification is not disclosed, the phone will be launched next month.
Micromax co founder, Rahul Sharma is also optimistic about the prospect of the new series as the tech savvy and tech enthusiasts deserve a new device which serves their needs and provides a customised experience.
For the first time Micromax is giving the option to end users to have bootlegger access which will help the customer choose software upgrades as per their need.
Cyanogen OS is built on Android. Its speciality is providing software advancements that enhance features such as performance, privacy and security on smartphone devices.
The company is confident that Micromax Yu will not eat up the market share of its existing brands but will tap or build a new market of tech enthusiasts who constantly look for getting more from their smartphones.
The company also plans to launch a forum where users can give their ideas and software updates will happen every fortnight. The plans include to provide value for money and also selling the phone through online channels. Miromax Yu is already in discussions with online sellers for selling this product online.
If we take a look at the Smartphone market in India, it has grown tremendously and according to a research firm IDC, it grew whooping 84% when compared to the second quarter last year. The Indian Smartphone market as of quarter ended June 2014 stands at 18.42 million units.
The top player is Samsung with 29% market share followed by Micromax 18% and Karbonn 8%. Micromax seems to be inching its way to the top spot.
