Shortly after Xiaomi sent out the invites for the launch event -it was expected that the company may launch its flagship Mi5- but it turns out that the company has no intention of launching the Mi5 at the event on Monday.
The Co-founder and President of Xioami, Lin Bin has come out to deny media reports that state the Chinese smartphone maker may finally reveal its 2015 flagship, the Xiaomi Mi5. Bin said on his Weibo post, “Not mi 5, notebooks, watches, plates, rice cookers, inflatable doll, nor bicycles, cars, aircraft, bombs, UFO.”
Earlier this week, the launch teaser image shared by Xiaomi read “The next generation of a new conference” (Bing Translation). However, the company did not give any clue on any device launch.
However, Lei Jun, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi, shared a teaser image on Weibo said that the Chinese company intends to launch a new device category targeted at photographers, along with the image of a camera and a lens. It also included a tagline that said, “Better lens and body separated” hinting that Xiaomi might launch a camera. We will have to, however, wait till Monday to see what Xiaomi has in store.
Xiaomi Mi 4 was unveiled back in July last year, considering that the company seems to be going slow with its production of the next-generation flagship smartphone. There have been several leaks on the internet so far about the Mi 5 which claims that device apparently be the first to run on the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. However, Qualcomm has not yet announced the final release of the new Snapdragon SoCs. Most probably, Xiaomi may use the ‘more popular’ octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 SoC, also seen on the Nexus 6P. And according to another report recently stated that Xiaomi may go for MediaTek deca-core Helio X20 processor due to the delay in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipsets – which goes in line with a previous report.
The Mi 5 may feature 4GB of RAM; Adreno 530 GPU; a 5.3-inch QHD (1440×2560) pixels resolution display with pixel density of 554ppi; arrive in 16GB or 64GB inbuilt storage variants with no option for expandable storage; a 16-megapixel rear camera with dual-LED flash, and be backed by a 3030mAh battery.
