Prime Minister Indicates the Restart of Nokia Chennai Plant

Nokia-LogoPrime Minister Narendra Modi indicated that the Tamil Nadu based Nokia plant, which was closed few months back, is likely to come into functioning again.

In Rajya Sabha, Modi responded to CPI (M) member Sitaram Yechury about the closure of this plant by saying, “Your concern is right. 25000 people were rendered jobless there,” While replying to a debate on the motion of Thanks to the president’s address, Prime Minister claimed that the plant was shut down because of UPA’s actions and not because of present government’s action.

He indicated towards the restart of this plant by saying, “Let me assure you. We have started efforts in this direction (to restart the unit). The result of this effort will be that in the coming days, Nokia plant should start functioning again and people will get employment.”

The Chennai based Nokia plant was set up in 2006, and it continued to operate until November 2014. Prime Minister highlighted the importance of employment generation by saying, “a push needs to be given to infrastructure development!”

In addition to this, he also added about Digital India by saying that at a time theory of “Haves and have nots” was believed, and according to his opinion Digital divide can also be a reason behind backwardness and poverty! Modi said that he didn’t wanted to allow digital Divide to enter this country, and wanted to usher in “Mobile Governance.”

Moving ahead, Modi also added about English fluency of youth in North Eastern States, and pushed the need of BPO settlement for employment like in other cities.
