Both these devices have been creating a lot of buzz with their leaks and rumors. Finally, all the rumors have come to an end with their official announcement. With back-to-back launch events of HTC and Samsung, the features of their flagship smartphones are now available officially. While Samsung promises better design, HTC flaunts its better camera. Their claims force us to compare specifications and features of both these devices.

Being the top end devices, both of them come with industry leading specifications. There are much more differentiating points than the number of similarities. In most of the departments both of the devices give a tough competition to each other. So let’s find out which smartphones wins the battle with better specifications.

Processors:

Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with Samsung’s proprietary Exynos 7420 octa-core processor which is clocked at 2.1GHz. And the Galaxy S6 edge has the same processor but with higher clock speed at 2.5GHz. Both the devices have Mali-T760 GPU. On the other hand HTC One M9 is powered by 2GHz Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor and its graphics are managed by Adreno 430.

Display:

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge have 5.1 inches display with 2560×1440 (QHD/2K) resolution which totals to 577ppi. The HTC One M9 comes with a 5 inches 1920×1080 (FHD) display. Both the devices’ screens are protected by the latest generation Corning Gorilla Glass 4.

RAM and Storage:

Both the devices come with same amount of RAM i.e. 3GB. On the storage front, the Galaxy devices come with an option of 32/64/128GB internal storage which cannot be expanded. HTC One M9 has 32GB internal memory which can be further expanded via microSD card up to 128GB.

Camera:

Bothe the Galaxy devices come equipped with 16MP rear facing camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) that can record 4K video. There is a 5MP front facing camera. Both the cameras have an aperture of f/1.9. And HTC One M9 is armed with a 20.7MP camera sensor with f/2.2 aperture that can also record 4K videos. The front facing camera is of 4MP and is of Ultrapixel variety.

Battery:

The battery capacity of Galaxy S6 is 2550 mAh and the capacity increases to 2600 mAh for Galaxy S6 edge. This time Samsung chose to put in non-removable batteries with built-in wireless charging support. HTC One M9 packs in a larger 2840 mAh non-removable battery.

Connectivity:

Both Galaxy devices support global LTE bands, 3G bands, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, IR Blaster and micro USB 2.0. HTC One M9 also supports all the 4G and 3G bands. Apart from these, it also supports Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, NFC, Infrared port, NFC and micro USB 2.0.

Operating System:

The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge come with TouchWiz UI running over Android 5.0 Lollipop. The UI has been trimmed down to reduce lags. The HTC One M9 runs the HTC Sense UI 7.0 which is also based on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The Sense UI is considered one of the most feature rich UI.

Dimensions and Weight:

Samsung Galaxy S6 measures 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8 mm and weighs 138 grams. The Galaxy S6 edge measures 142.1 x 70.1 x 7 mm and weighs 132 grams. HTC One M9 measures 144.6 x 69.7 x 9.6 mm and weighs 157 grams.

Verdict:

Both the devices come loaded with best of the specifications any smartphone can have. All the devices have a sturdy metal build quality and look great. Comparing the specifications brings us to the conclusion that most of the specifications are identical but many improvements in the Galaxy devices make it a better option over HTC One M9. This is an early conclusion based on the specifications of the devices. The actual and in-depth comparison can only be done once we get the devices in our hands.
