Xiaomi has taken the Indian smartphone market by storm with launch of several flagship phones at mid-range prices. Recently, Xiaomi had launched of Redmi 2 and Mi Pad in India. While the review for Redmi 2 is already live, we are bringing you the in-depth review of Xiaomi Mi Pad. Continuing the Xiaomi’s legacy of launching amazing devices at a budget, the Mi Pad offers some of the highest specifications standard but at a price that everyone can afford. Let’s get through every minute detail of the device-
Design wise, the Xiaomi Mi Pad undoubtedly resembles Apple iPad mini from all sides. The form factor, design, screen size, camera position, speakers position, everything is just like the iPad mini. Unlike iPad, the Mi Pad has a glossy plastic build, that feel sturdy and the overall build quality is quite good. There are three capacitive android navigation keys that sit right below the screen. On the top, there is just a Mi logo and rest everything is blank. There is a micro USB port at the bottom for charging and data syncing. The tablet supports microSD cards for expanding the memory but there is no slot for SIM card.
As said above, most of the things are very similar to iPad mini and that applies here too. The Xiaomi Mi Pad has a screen size of 7.9 inches with a resolution of 1536×2048, which is same as the iPad’s Retina Display. The aspect ratio of the screen is 4:3 and this is going to be good if you will use this device more for business works like emails, presentations, etc. The screen is sharp & vivid and is very pleasant to use in general. The only thing that was not right with the display was its visibility in direct sunlight. Due to glossy finish of the screen, reflections were making it difficult to see the screen clearly.
Performance & OS
The Xiaomi Mi Pad is powered by quad-core 32-bit Nvidia Tegra K1 processor clocked at 2.2GHz. The SoC was also seen on the latest Nexus 9 but on 64-bit build. The processor is a powerhouse for sure, even the benchmark applications agreed to the fact. The 192-core GPU handles whatever you through at it with ease. Multitasking is handled by 2GB of RAM that is good enough to give a lag free punch to your tablet. All in all, the performance is at par with any of the high end tablets available in the market at present.
On the software front, the tablet runs on Android 4.4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6 on top. Though the combination has gone too old, Xiaomi has promised to bring Android 5.0 lollipop update sooner than later. The new MIUI 6 feels much more refreshed with its resemblance to iOS 8. The new features included make it much more tempting than the MIUI 5. Xiaomi has worked very hard over its OS to bring the best user experience. It is powered by a 6700 mAh battery that gives good backup, thanks to the optimized OS and processor.
Xiaomi Mi Pad has good camera offerings. There is an 8MP camera on the back and a 5MP selfie camera on the front. Both the camera can record full HD 1080p videos. The camera produced images with punchy colors and good details. The camera on the Mi Pad is good enough for a tablet but can’t compete with smartphones alike. The lack of LED flash created a problem sometimes.
Xiaomi has never disappointed us with their offerings and this time also we’re surely impressed. The amount of specifications it offers at such a low price is truly remarkable. The tablet is available for just Rs. 12999 and it is surely bang for the buck. The best part is that the tablet will be available without flash sale on Flipkart so you should surely grab one for yourself.
